“Funny, wise and original”
Kendal Acts Up is my first novel.
Recent published short stories include Unprecedented (how Covid made me learn about nature), The Death Cafe is Closed (LISP 2024 shortlist) and Risk Assessment (Parracombe Prize shortlist). Last year, The Cook’s Tale monologue was performed by Treehouse Theatre (almost as thrilling as winning a BBC schools competition in the 1970s!)
After the pandemic, I quit my job as a charity fundraiser, to write, snack and play pickleball.
“Ros Huxley's Kendal is an outsider, irreverent, self-serving and hilarious. Shove the dishes and the deadlines aside and make way, you won't be disappointed!”
Carla Jenkins, Raw Writing
"Ros Huxley’s debut novel is not afraid to play against the stereotype. Kendal Acts Up is warm and humorous, and it manages to entertain while being unafraid to confront our prejudices and ask some serious and very topical questions about aging”
Vesna Goldsworthy, FRSL, author of Iron Curtain, Monsier Ka, Gorsky.
“A complete delight and the chaotic, mesmerising Kendal Tudge is a Jurassic Coast Bridget Jones”
Ashley Pharoah, screenwriter Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes.
“A glorious story about finding belonging in midlife by acting older instead of chasing after youth. Heart-warming, funny and feel good.”
Tanya Shadrick, author of The Cure For Sleep
“Ros Huxley’s Kendal is an outsider, irreverant, self-serving and hilarious. Shove the dishes and the deadlines aside and make way, you wont be disappointed!
Kim Squirrell, Ink and Page
“Balancing savage social observation with empathy and wit, Kendal Acts Up plots a wildly entertaining path through questions of age, and how we value one another. Huxley’s is an ethics without righteousness, a utopia without delusion. Bravo!”
Amber Husain, author of Replace Me and Meat Love
“A timely story, funny and engaging.”
Senta Rich, author of Hotel 21 and The Single Neighbour
“A perfect summer read set on England's Jurassic coast. I adored Kendal Tudge from the opening pages and wanted to go on an adventure with her. Sexy, sassy and up for a bit of sea-swimming - what's not to love? Bravo Ros Huxley on your wonderful and witty debut novel - a tour de force of mayhem and messy birds.”
Jessica Hepburn, author of Save Me From The Waves, 21 and The Pursuit of Motherhood
